Configure Notification of Failed Emails

Scroll Prev Top Next More

Within the Cobwebb Server software there is an option to Print failed messages. You will then need to specify an Output Device for printing this information.

Note: If you select an *SCS Output Device then you could also monitor for this output using a Cobwebb Design to send an email notification of the failure.

Limitations: Not all email servers report back failures and so the message may be flagged as sent even if it has failed. Gmail and Office 365 do seem to report back failures in email addresses.

Step 1 - Create an Output Device

1.From the Cobwebb Fax and Email Menu select option 7. System Maintenance > 1. Maintenance Menu > 10.Work with output devices.

2.Enter a 3 beside the existing Default entry for the type of Output Device you wish to create.

3.Enter the following:

a.Leave the Page Definition blank

b.Enter an Output device name say EMLFAIL

c.If the Type is blank enter one of the following to match the type of Output device you wish to create e.g. *SCS, *AFP or *HPT.

d.Enter a Description

4.Press Enter.

Using this Output device will produce a print in Output Queue QPRINT in the Cobwebb library (CPPD).

Step 2 - Change the System Parameter to Print failed messages

1.From the Cobwebb Fax and Email Menu select option 6. Work with system parameters > 1. System Parameters > 1. System Parameters.

2.Change the Print failed messages entry to a 2 (or 3) to print failed email (and fax).

3.Enter the name of the Output device you have just created in the Output device entry e.g. EMLFAIL.

4.Press Enter.

Step 3 - Create a Cobwebb Design

This step is only required if you wish to monitor the QPRINT Output queue and send an email when an email error occurs.

Create a Cobwebb Design to pull in the information from the print and send an email to the relevant person.

Example Failed Email *SCS Output

SENDER ADDRESS

test@cobwebb.com

RECIPIENT ADDRESS

Step 4 - Add a Spooled File Monitor entry

This step is only required if you wish to monitor the QPRINT Output queue and send an email when an email error occurs.

Create a new entry in Work with Spooled file monitor to monitor for prints in Output queue QPRINT in library CPPD with User Data = to the name of your Output device e.g. EMLFAIL.
